Law enforcement
scheduling may include police department schedules, sheriffs
department schedules, correctional facility schedules, security
officer schedules, police schedules, sheriff schedules,
correctional officer schedules and schedules for anyone else
involved in law enforcement.

Since laws need
to be enforced 24/7/365, most law enforcement agencies and
correctional facilities use rotating shifts where officers work in
regular patterns of days on and days off. Sometimes the shifts
rotate and other times they do not. Usually police schedules have
rotating days off, but not always. Both 8 hour shifts and 12 hour
shifts can be easily scheduled to rotate days off and/or to rotate
shifts. The use of 10 hour shifts is appealing because it can
provide 3 days off each week, but since 24 can’t be divided evenly
by 10, excessive shift overlap is required to fit three 10 hour
shifts into a 24 hour day. If your officer coverage needs are less
for a few hours a day, a combination of 10 hour shifts and 8 or 12
hour shifts can be used to adjust staffing levels to fit your
needs. Another approach to a 4 day, 40 hour week uses 2-12 hour
and 2-8 hour shifts a week.
Our
Series
3 Template Schedulers are very popular with police
and sheriff departments as well as correctional facilities
for scheduling their officers to rotating
shifts. The schedulers
can use any shift pattern that you can imagine. And if you need
help imagining shift patterns, we offer hundreds of 8, 10 and 12
hour schedules covering 1, 2 and 3 shifts a day for 5, 6 and 7
days a week.

In addition, for a modest fee, we will create a custom schedule
that exactly fits your staffing needs.

Law enforcement agencies come to us all of the time asking us to
help them craft a schedule that provides the unique coverage that
they require within available staffing limitations. If your
coverage requirements are unique and, for example, require a
certain number of male and female officers on each shift, they are
easily scheduled in one of our Rotating Shift Schedulers.
Once you have
established your schedule and work patterns, individual officer
schedules can be easily adjusted to accommodate officer
availability and your staffing needs. Vacation scheduling is a
snap and you can easily schedule people to cover the vacated
shifts. The program keeps track of the number of officers
scheduled for each shift and will alert you when vacations and
other absences drops shift staffing below a critical level. The
overtime scheduling feature keeps track of the number of overtime
hours worked by each officer and will tell you which ones have the
fewest overtime hours and which ones are available for an extra
shift each day.
