If your business needs to be staffed 5 days a
week, 6 days a week or 7 days a week we can provide shift schedules
for you using 8 hour shifts, 10 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts to
give you the exact number of people you need at all times. It
doesn’t matter if you need 1 shift a day, 2 shifts a day and 3
shifts a day, our scheduling templates cover them all. Using a 1
shift template you can create schedules to cover an 8, 10 or 12 hour period during the
day for 5, 6 or 7 days a week to provide staff when you need them.
If your staffing needs vary throughout the day you can use 2 or 3
overlapping shifts to provide more people during certain hours of
the day. And, around-the-clock, 24/7 coverage is easily scheduled
using 8 hour shifts, 10 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. You can
select scheduling templates that provide a different number of people on each
shift, and you can easily modify the tables to provide a different
number of people each day of the week.
The number of days off each week is usually important to your
employees and you may be considering switching to 10 hour shifts to
give your employees an extra day off each week. We have hundreds of
10 hour scheduling templates to provide people for 1, 2 or 3 shifts a day
and 5, 6 or 7 days a week, so it doesn’t matter how many days a week
your business is open, we have your shift scheduling needs covered.
Even though 10 hour shifts are attractive from the days off point of
view, they can be inefficient if you are open 24 hours a day. The
shift overlap will require you to pay for 30 hours of shift coverage
for each 24 hours of coverage received. The two (or so) hour overlap
between shifts may also create problems if each person occupies a
desk or work station of some sort with desk-sharing a possible
consequence. If you are open 24 hours a day and need extra coverage
for a 6 hour period during the day, you can schedule your shift
start and stop times to provide extra coverage during those 6 hours
of the day.
While 10 hour shifts provide 3 days off a week, 12 hour shifts
provide either 3 or 4 days off each week. A common 12 hour work
schedule is 4 days on and 4 days off providing 36 hours of work one
week and 48 hours the next week for an average of 42 hours a week.
If you want, you can have your people switch from the day shift to
the night shift on a regular basis. While this schedule is often
used, weekends off are not very frequent. Other templates provide
many more weekends off.
Quite often businesses need to add or subtract staff to accommodate
a growing or shrinking business and need a scheduling solution to
reflect their new staffing levels. Our scheduling templates can be used to
provide any number of people per shift and can quickly and easily
accommodate changing staffing levels.
Businesses sometimes decide to change the number of days a week they
are open and may need to switch from a 5 day a week schedule to a 6
day a week schedule or to a 7 day a week schedule. Since our
scheduling templates cover all of these situations, you will be able to
easily find a new schedule that fits your staffing needs.
If your business is planning to go from 1 shift a day to 2 or 3
shifts a day, you will be able to find several example schedules
that reflect your new business plan. Also, this expansion may
provide you with the opportunity to switch from 8 hour shifts to 10

We have found that the transition from one employee
schedule to another is much less painful and more easily accomplished
when everyone is involved in selecting the new schedule and the
easiest way to get your people on board with the new schedule is to
have several examples to present to them for consideration.
The number of weekends off is usually very important and our templates
are crafted to provide maximum weekends off for your people. Some of
our 12 hour shift schedules have a 3 day weekend every other week
while averaging 42 hours a week. And, one of our most popular 10 hour
shift schedules provides three 4-day weekends every 7 weeks and
provides each person with exactly 40 hours each week. Weekends off are
less frequent with 8 hour shifts since these shifts maximize time off
each day in exchange for whole days off and a typical schedule may
provide two 3-day weekends every 7 weeks while providing each person
with 40 hours every week.
While most of our schedules average about 40 hours a week, they vary
between about 30 and 55 hours a week, giving you lots of choices to
fit your staffing needs with available personnel. And, those schedules
that don’t have about 40 hours a week provide a good framework for you
to add and delete weekly shifts to match your unique daily staffing
requirements.
Each package contains dozens of templates for up to 9 people per
shift. If you need more people, simply use several different templates
or multiple copies of one template. For example if you need 17 people
per shift, you can use a template that provides 9 people and one that
provides 8 people. Or, if you find a template that fits your
needs regarding days off and weekly hours, you can multiple copies of
it to schedule your people. For example, you can use a template that
uses 3 people to provide 2 per shift it to create schedules for 3, 6,
9, or any other multiple of 3 people to provide 2, 4 or 6 people per
shift.
If you find one of the 1 shift templates that you like, you can use
the same template for 1,2 or 3 shifts a day and you can setup your
schedules so your people always work the same shift or rotate from one
shift to another on a regular basis. If your people bid for schedules,
you can assign the same schedule leg to an individual for the length
of the bid period. The schedule templates provide the same number of
people each day, but can be easily modified to provide a different
number of people each day. A "Shift Counter" sheet is provided where
you can copy one or more templates and modify the daily staffing until
you create a schedule that exactly matches your staffing requirements
each day. You can also use different templates for each of your shifts
if your staffing needs change from one shift to another.
If your staffing needs are constant during the week
and you can get by with fewer people on the weekends, you can use a 7
day template to provide your basic weekday/weekend staffing and a 5
day template to provide the extra people needed on the weekdays. You
can then rotate all of your employees through both the 5 day patterns
and the 7 day patterns to evenly distribute weekends off to all of
your employees.
